Presidents Evening – Mark Woodhead Saturday 16th November 2024
Our Annual Presidents Evening was held at Priory Tennis Club on Saturday 16th November 2024. It was attended by 59 members, family and friends.
Our presiding President, Mark Woodhead thought it was a good idea to ask Henry Schofield, our in-house chef to cater for this event. For Starters there was Garlic Bread and a Mexican Salad. Main Course was a fabulous Meat and a Vegetarian Chilli Con Carne. This was followed by Cheese & Biscuits and fresh Fruit Platters.
Following the meal, we held our Annual Awards Ceremony and awards for this year’s Tennis Ladder League, (Role of Honour detailed below). This year’s special Presidents Trophy was awarded to Men’s 2nd Team and Mixed Winter League 2nd Team Captain, David Smith. David has been a captain of both of these teams for over 5 years and has proved to be a very dedicated and organised Captain. During his time in this role, he has helped both teams to be successful, resulting in several promotions.
Mark announced the clubs next President for 2025 at the end of the speeches who will be Janet Davies. Well done Janet and thoroughly deserved.
Entertainment then took centre stage where DJ Pete played out some classic dancefloor fillers over the decades while everyone danced and partied away. A massive thanks to DJ Pete as he was only booked until midnight but continued until almost 1am as everyone was having such a good time.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who helped me set up that Saturday afternoon and also the clearing up the following day on the Sunday. I would like to make a special thanks to Henry for his fab food and also Yvonne & Kay who ran the bar fantastically albeit their first time. Without such fantastic volunteers we couldn’t have had such an amazing evening.
2024 Presidents Awards:
• Most Improved Junior: Ishani Wirasinghe.
• Team of The Year Award: Men’s 3rd Team – (NECTL Division 10 for being promoted.)
• Long Service Award: Pat Jenkins – (40 years’ service to the club.)
• Presidents Award: David Smith.
Tennis Ladder League Awards 2024:
• Singles Ladder Champion: Josh Byrom.
• Highest Placed Lady: Sarah Pownell.
• Most Matches Played: Kath Jackson.
• Doubles Ladder Champions: Mark Woodhead & Steven Parkinson.
• Most Matches Played: Kath Jackson & Julie Griffiths.
