LTA U18's Boys Singles Fast4 Tournament
Sunday 26th May 2024 – Held at Priory Tennis Club
This is the second year that Priory has hosted an LTA Boys U18 Singles Tournament. Following the success of it last year and the fact that Matty Brown and Joe Unwin made it to the final of the Plate Competition with Matty winning, it was going to be interesting to see how both of their games have developed over the last 12 months. I am pleased to say they both didn’t disappoint.
Both our Juniors Joe Unwin and Matty Brown had a lot of support attend the club to cheer them on from the decking which was nice to see.
There was some great tennis on display and each of Joe and Matty’s matches went the distance to the championship tie-break.
Luckily the weather held up and turned out to be good playing conditions. Joe made it to the semi-finals of the main draw just losing 10-5 in champions tie break to the No1 seed William Adams. A fantastic effort indeed.
Matty did one better and made it through to the final narrowly losing 10-8 in championship tie-break to No1 seed 14-year-old William Adams from Usk Tennis Club.
Tournament Referee Tom Brown told us that William has an LTA ranking in England of 600 for his age group so Matty did an amazing job in coming so close to beating him.
Both Matty and Joe have made big improvements to their game over the last 12 months and these results really prove that they are moving in the right direction.
The quality of tennis on display from all of the 8 juniors that entered was fantastic to watch and capped off by a high-quality final.
The power game that William displayed throughout for his age and height was incredible to see. Even his racket bag was that big it was almost as tall as him.
Well done to all of the players and especially to Joe and Matty for their efforts. It’s only a matter of time before they start winning these events.
